Job summary
The Diabetic Eye Screening Programme (DESP) at Wirral University Teaching Hospital is part of the Head and Neck Directorate within the Surgery Division.
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the team as 'Improving Screening Uptake Officer', which is a brand new position, fixed term for 2 years.
The successful candidate will join a small team with the main focus of improving diabetic eye screening uptake across Wirral. We are looking for a confident, sociable individual who will be able to communicate effectively across various community groups encouraging individuals to uptake screening.
The ability to present and promote the programme at various events and webinars is essential. The postholder will be able to 'think outside the box' to address reasons for non-attendance for screening and plan to improve uptake of screening in areas of low participation.

Main duties of the job
- To answer queries about screening, acquiring professional advice from screening colleagues in advance where needed.
- Demonstrate an awareness of the diabetic eye screening pathway and department protocols in supporting individuals.
- To manage own area and own time, working around group meetings outside of core hours as required.
- Working with public/health sector partners to plan and engage the voluntary, community and faith sector e.g., Diabetes UK in promoting the uptake of the Diabetic Eye Screening Programme.
- To carry out other relevant activities appropriate to the post and adhere to levels of responsibility associated to said post.
- Propose changes to own project, service, and initiative work, informing policy and making recommendations for more effective delivery.
- Contribute to the review and development of existing project information management systems and contribute to the development of an integrated approach to project management.
- Under the guidance of the Screening Programme Manager contribute to the creation and review of standard operating procedures, recommending changes or improvements to support improved uptake rates and implementing changes when required.
