Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Dietitian to work within the friendly and welcoming Gastroenterology Dietetic team at Wirral NHS Hospital Trust. The role will involve providing a dietetic service to both inpatient and outpatient Gastroenterology patients. Some of the clinical conditions covered will include IBD, IBS, ALD, Pancreatitis, Diverticulitis, Coeliac Disease and Gastroparesis and there will be opportunities to care for patients with eating disorders with support from the local eating disorder service in the community. As a Gastroenterology Dietetic team, we provide regular coeliac patient education sessions for patients who have recently been diagnosed with coeliac disease.
The hospital has two main bases at Arrowe Park and Clatterbridge and there are excellent postgraduate centres on both sites.
Main duties of the job
- To prescribe all nutritional supplements and enteral feeds on the Cerner Millennium system and to discontinue them when necessary.
- To accurately record all assessments and interventions on the Cerner Millennium system, and in medical, nursing and dietetic documentation in line with Trust policy.
- To communicate appropriately with other agencies e.g. GPs and community dietitians about patient care after discharge, including prescription of nutritional products.
- To liaise with community dietitians and other agencies to ensure the safe and timely discharge of patients on home enteral feeding, who will require support and follow-up in the community.
- To develop a range of educational resources for patients in defined clinical areas which have a clear evidence base and which are acceptable to users of the service and their carers.
- To deliver formal and informal training to other health care professionals e.g. medical staff, pre and post registration training for nurses in specialised area of dietetics as required.
- To contribute to the training and assessment of student dietitians in the relevant clinical speciality.
- To maintain and develop personal knowledge and skills by attending training events and study days in accordance with training needs identified at staff appraisal and recorded in your personal development plan.
