Job description

Job responsibilities

At present the cot establishment on our NICU includes 14 flexible intensive/high dependency cots and 10 special care cots.

There are 4 transitional care cots based in the postnatal ward. The unit provides highly specialised holistic care to babies born from 23 weeks gestation. The unit offers different modes of conventional ventilation (Volume Guarantee usual mode) and non-invasive respiratory support including CPAP, BiPAP and high flow oxygen therapy.

The unit also offers modalities like High Frequency Oscillation (HFOV) and Nitric Oxide (iNO) for difficult cases with hypoxic or ventilatory failure. Arrowe Park Hospital is one of the 2 cooling centres in the Cheshire and Merseyside region; the unit has 2 cots for therapeutic cooling with facilities for Cerebral Function Monitoring (CFM).

The unit offers regular on-unit retinopathy of prematurity and new-born hearing screening by a local ophthalmologist.

The unit is adjacent to the delivery suite and the Foetal Medicine Unit. Fortnightly High Risk joint neonatal and obstetric meetings take place, as well as monthly joint perinatal morbidity/mortality meetings.

  • Arrowe Park Hospital has on-site adult critical care facilities and all obstetric patients requiring critical care can be immediately transferred under the care of an intensivist, with minimal mother and baby separation.
  • Community neonatal services provide a follow up service for all babies discharged from the neonatal unit for up to 6 weeks. Strong links with local community services through our comprehensive integrated Child Health Service allow efficient transition to the community team for vulnerable infants wherever necessary.
  • The Wirral Family and Baby Support (FaB) programme is an innovative programme developed at Arrowe Park, and now adopted throughout the Neonatal Network, which provides early intervention and support for all families on NICU.
  • Ronald McDonald House provides purpose built accommodation for 7 families on Wirral and from out of area.

Please see attached Job Description for further information about the Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner position available at WUTH.

If successful in this role, there is a requirement for you to have a standard/enhanced DBS. This will be paid for by the Trust and then deducted from your salary over a period of 3 month. As this vacancy is within the division of Womens and Childrens, there is a mandatory requirement for successful applicants to join the DBS update service. The cost of joining the update service is £13 per year, and applicants are liable to cover this cost with no reimbursement from the Trust. Further details of how to join the update service will be provided upon appointment.
