Our newly developed pain team aim to refocus pain management using up to date evidence, maximising scope for recovery.
As a GP you'll be familiar with how biology, psychology and social/lifestyle factors all fit into clinical diagnoses. Pain Medicine has undergone a revolution in the last few years. Nociplasticity (maladaption in the nociceptive/sensory systems) is now known as a significant driver for pain. Understanding how the nervous system interacts with immunity, repair processes, cognitive systems, function & lifestyle factors, make pain medicine one of the most cutting-edge specialities currently.
We are looking for a General Practitioner with Extended Role (GPwER) in Pain Management to join our MDT and support people living with persistent / chronic pain in Wirral.
You will act as a source of clinical expertise on the management of persistent pain disorders, and providing an advisory service to patients, GPs, and Consultants within Wirral. You will facilitate successful partnership working and the delivery and development of high-quality pain management for patients.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will work together with the clinical team to develop the Chronic Pain service in liaison with professional and clinical colleagues in community and primary care.
The post holder will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Weekly multi-disciplinary team meetings provide an opportunity for peer support and education. The postholder will have a nominated lead who will provide mentorship and ensure appropriate support for the agreed scope of practice, The post holder will be encouraged to engage with clinicians from other disciplines.
