Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is looking for motivated, highly enthusiastic and dynamic Senior or Intermediate Clinical Coder to join our clinical coding team.

Main duties of the job

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is looking for motivated, highly enthusiastic and dynamic Senior or Intermediate Clinical Coder to join our clinical coding team. We are able to offer 37.5 hours per week working over 5 days (Mon to Friday, part time hours would be considered). flexible working is available, and homeworking is on a rotational basis for Band 5 Senior Clinical Coders. You will be expected to maintain your clinical coding skills and knowledge. You will have the opportunity to gain experience in other coding roles such as audit, training. and mentoring. The successful candidate must have willingness to learn and embrace new experiences.

Walsall Manor houses the full range of district general hospital services under one roof. For the Senior Clinical Coder position (Band 5 + 30% R&R Premium) the successful candidate must have passed the NCCQ examination. An extensive understanding of International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) and OPCS-4 as well as thorough understanding of national clinical coding standards and conventions is required.

A band 4 intermediate clinical coder position would be considered for any candidates wanting to take the NCCQ examination or awaiting results and with demonstrable recent experience working as a clinical coder within the NHS. Any candidates not wishing to take the NCCQ examination must have significant recent experience within an acute NHS trust clinical coding department.

Candidates must have completed the NHS Digital approved standards / foundation course. Other essential skills include excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with junior clinical coders, auditors and clinicians. If you choose to sit the NCCQ examination, you will be fully supported.

  • oAttendance at Clinical Coding Refresher Course every 2 - 3 years.
  • oExperience of using both paper records and electronic records to extract clinical information for the purpose of clinical coding
