Job summary

A Pharmacy Assistant works under a licensed healthcare professional, such as a pharmacist or pharmacy technician, to provide medication and pharmacy-related services to patients and other healthcare professionals. Pharmacy Assistants support the entire pharmacy process, from dispensing and supplying medicines to ordering stock, managing storage, and even providing basic lifestyle advice to patients. They operate in various pharmacy settings, ensuring the efficient and compliant delivery of pharmaceutical services by adhering to organisational standard operating procedures (SOPs) which ensures compliance with regulations.

A role as a Pharmacy Assistant Apprentice can be a stepping stone into the pharmacy field. The skills and experience gained provide a foundation for more advanced roles within a hospital pharmacy team. At Walsall Manor, we are passionate about growing and training our team.

Main duties of the job

Assisting in the preparation, assembly, and supply of medicines for patients.

Ordering, receiving, storing, and disposing of medicines and other pharmacy products.

Delivering medicines to different wards or departments and handling administrative tasks.

Essential

  • Minimum of 3 GCSE's with English and Maths and at least 1 science subject at Grade C / level 4 and 1 other subject at grade D/level 3 or above

Experience

  • Experience of working in a warehouse/stores environment o Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team o Experience of accurately selecting products

Desirable

  • Experience of accurately selecting products in accordance with an order/request
  • o Experience of reception duties o Experience of handling cash o Experience of manual handling, eg. Lifting, bending and stretching

Skills and Knowledge

  • o Accurate and precise with attention to detail o Able to meet deadlines and manage time/set priorities including response to urgent requests.

Desirable

  • Able to work under pressure and maintain concentration for long periods o Able to work alone and as team member and under supervision
  • Have excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Able to undertake routine tasks including routine clerical duties, eg photocopying and filing o Have basic keyboard skills and computer skills
