Job summary
Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is seeking to appoint a Consultant Clinical Lead in HIV and Genitourinary medicine following the retirement of the existing post holder. The post holder will be working for 10 programmed activities (PA) per annum with any additional PA's subject to negotiation, depending on the circumstances.
The post holder will join the current medical team which consists of a Consultant in Genitourinary medicine (full time) and a Specialty Doctor. The team provides high quality care for management of HIV, sexually transmitted infections and all forms of contraception. The post holder will have the opportunity to develop the integrated sexual health service and care for HIV patients and improve the quality of care that is provided. The service provides both inpatient and outpatient care for HIV infected patients. The HIV service is supported by a dedicated pharmacist and clinical psychologist.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will participate in a 1 in 3 on call Consultant rota during weekdays and weekends along with a Consultant in HIV and sexual health at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust (Sandwell General Hospital). The integrated sexual health service is also supported by a Consultant in sexual and reproductive health who manages cases of complex contraception which includes deep implants and misplaced intrauterine contraceptive devices.
Provide a high-quality HIV and integrated contraception and sexual health service to outpatients attending WISH Walsall Sexual Health Service which is delivered by the Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust. Clinics will be a combination of complex and non-complex sexual health, contraception advice and opportunity to have procedure clinics fitting LARCs depending on competency level.
