Senior Clinical Fellow Vacancy - Elderly Care
Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust are seeking to appoint a Senior Clinical Fellow in Geriatric Medicine. The role will involve participation in the GIM on call middle grade rota.
Successful candidates will be working with other middle grade staff to provide first line of support for Specialty Trainees and Foundation Doctors and take the lead in the care of the seriously ill patients; see and treat all categories of patients in Frail/Elderly Care/Geriatric and General Internal Medicine.

Main duties of the job
The main duties are of the role will include the following:
- Reception/diagnosis/treatment of new patients
- Assist the Consultant on the ward.
- Independent ward rounds once a week
- Provide support to junior doctors.
- Assist in teaching junior members of staff in the department
- Act as team leader in the reception/diagnosis/treatment of seriously ill patients in the absence of the Consultant
- Participation in Saturday wards cover.
- Maintain a satisfactory standard of education as determined at the yearly performance review/ Mandatory training a Trust appraisals
- Encouraged to partake in the Trust Speciality Doctor teaching and training programme
- Provide prospective cover for colleagues' absence
- Participation in departmental teaching
- Participate in 1 in 13 General Medical (GIM) On Call for Registrar Level
The post holder will be supported by an appropriately skilled medical secretariat.

- Basic Medical Qualification (i.e. MBBS or equivalent)
- At least 4 years post graduate training, two to those being in relevant specialty or equivalent experience, to carry out a full range of Frail/Elderly Care/Geriatric and General Internal Medicine practical procedures
- ATLS/ALS/APLA
- Full GMC Registration with a Licence to Practice

- Experience in Frail/Elderly Care/Geriatric and General Internal Medicine Working knowledge of the NHS or an equivalent organisation.
- Awareness of the differing needs of a diverse population in relation to ethnicity
