Job summary

We are recruiting staff nurses to join our forward thinking School Nursing Service. We welcome applications from staff nurses who have community experience and keen to start a career in Public Health Nurses. You will join the service at an exciting time as we progress our 0-19 pathways working more closely with Health Visiting services and our partners in education, social care and Early Help to take a family approach to promotion of health and wellbeing, prevention and early intervention.

Post holders will work within a team under the direction of a Specialist Practitioner School Nurse to deliver the Healthy Child Programme 5-19 in schools and other education settings. You will develop health promotion activities, work with partners in education, social care, Early Help and voluntary sector to deliver services to local communities. As a staff nurse you will hold a caseload of children requiring targeted and specialist HCP level support. You will carry out holistic health assessments and plan care for children and young people. You will contribute to delivery of our Single Point of Access

Main duties of the job

  • Work as part of team to provide advice, care and support to children and young people, their parents/carers in a locality of the borough
  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for individual children and young people
  • Contribute to the planning and delivery of health promotion programmes and interventions
  • Work as part of multi-disciplinary and agency teams to support children, young people and families

  • Demonstrable evidence of working with children and young people within a community setting.

Desirable

  • Demonstrable experience of working as a staff nurse is School Nursing Service
  • Demonstrable experience of post qualification development in the area of public health nursing

Knowledge

Essential

  • Understanding of the role of the School Nurse
  • knowledge of health and social care policy relating to children's services to include safeguarding
  • Know of child development, health and wellbeing

Desirable

  • Aware of own abilities and be able to carry out clinical role without continuous direct supervision and ability to supervise junior members of staff
  • Excellent knowledge of clinical governance
