Job summary

Walsall Healthcare Speech and Language Therapy Department has an exciting opportunity to work within two integrated teams working with children and young people within the adolescents with complex needs integrated team and within the Youth Justice Service.

Consider applying for this post if you are a highly motivated and enthusiastic therapist committed to integrated partnership working. Your role will focus on reducing risks associated with complex needs by providing bespoke packages of high-quality and evidence-based support.

You will be required to independently manage complex cases, and work across a range of community settings. You will have a role to play in training the wider workforce. Excellent communication skills will be required. Reporting on impact and organising your time will require you to be highly organised and solution-focused.

You will be required to travel. Travel expenses are subsidised.

The successful applicant will work closely with service managers, therapists, and other multi-agency professionals. Ongoing supervision will be provided.

Walsall SLT service is a district-wide, integrated service, with a professional head of service. The service sits within a forward thinking allied health professionals care group.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide highly specialist assessment and intervention to adolescents with complex needs who have speech, language and communication difficulties to a small cohort of adolescents with complex needs an within youth justice.
  • To develop personalised plans which are developed by the child or young person, with their parents or carers, integrated teams staff and teachers. Including, support to the child or young person to develop their own strategies to facilitate communication.
  • Working with integrated teams for Adolescents with Complex needs and Youth Justice Service lead, plan, develop and deliver the Speech and Language services within these teams.
  • To measure and evaluate outcomes
  • To produce reports, reflecting highly specialist knowledge, in a format that is easily understood by the child/young person.
  • To manage a caseload within departmental standards and integrated team standards.
  • To provide advice and support to colleagues from a range of professions
  • To deliver training to the integrated team, to the wider workforce and to parents and carers of children and young people.
  • To develop accessible information and resources.
