Job summary

Walsall Healthcare Trust has an exciting opportunity to recruit a Deputy Chief Medical Officer. We are seeking a driven individual dedicated to making a difference to patient care and staff satisfaction.

The successful post holder will work to support the Chief Medical Officer to deliver high quality care by providing senior clinical leadership capability and capacity. Along with another Deputy, your portfolio will cover to deputise for the whole scope of responsibilities for the Chief Medical Officer. You will have the opportunity to hold professional portfolio responsibilities including medical workforce, operational delivery, and best practice models of care. This post is an excellent opportunity for development and of interest to any one aspiring to become a Chief Medical Officer. The Chief Medical Officer is supported by a team to include a project manager and PA support.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated and inspirational leader to join us on our journey to improve patient care. We are looking for a proven medical leader with leadership experience at Divisional level or another senior medical leadership position and with the determination and ambition to work at Board level to improve quality, patient experience and staff experience.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work closely with other WHCT Trust Executives and medical leaders and also with executives and leaders at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust Collaboration. The post-holder will also work alongside DCMOs and other clinical leaders in the Black Country ICS.

Walsall Healthcare Trust is committed to invest and support improvements in clinical care with a new Emergency Department Build, significant investment in medical and nursing workforce to include the Clinical Fellowship programme, a new Simulation Suite and significant utilisation of virtual wards and clinics as well as infrastructure for home reporting; attracting a number of new consultants.

The Deputy Chief Medical Officers will also hold a clinical role within the Trust, and will undertake some clinical work, the exact amount to be agreed. There may be flexibility for specialist clinical sessions at another Trust if this is required. The deputy Chief Medical Officer may undertake clinical on-call duties as part of their clinical role; alternately they may take part in the Director on Call rota for the Trust.

The Deputy Chief Medical Officers will work closely together with a joint focus on providing, with the Chief Medical Officers, clear leadership and processes to deliver the Trusts values, visions and objectives.

The Deputy Chief Medical Officers will assist and deputise for the Chief Medical Officer who is an Executive Director of the Board of Directors, adding value to and promoting the continued growth and success of the Trust.

The Deputy Chief Medical Officers will provide medical leadership across the organisation. The role will contribute to the overall strategic development and day-to-day running of the Trust and will contribute to the development and achievement of the organisations corporate objectives and the performance of the organisation in meeting them.

The Deputy Chief Medical Officers will work together to deputise for the Responsible Officer as and when required.
