PHARMACY TECHNICIAN- ENHANCED ROLE (Band 5) Full Time

SALARY £28,407 -£34,581 per annum

Hours are 37.5hrs per week to include late night working up to 6.30pm on rotation and to participate in Weekends and Bank Holidays working on rotation.

The Pharmacy Department at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is looking for a Band 5 Enhanced Role Pharmacy Technician who will work with the Clinical Pharmacists and Medicines Management Pharmacy Assistants providing a Ward Based Services

To have an enhanced role in the pharmacy team which undertakes a range of duties of a technical nature providing services to in and out-patients and to wards and departments including dispensing, accuracy checking, communicating with patients and hospital staff. Service provision to the integrated organisation and Palliative Care Services.

The Pharmacy Department at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is looking for Band 5 Enhanced Role Pharmacy Technicians who will rotate through our Integrated Medicines Management Services and will support our expansion of automation within the Trust.

Main duties of the job

Your main duties will be working on wards carrying out a comprehensive medicines management service which will encompass assessment of patient's own medicines, medicines reconciliation, near bedside dispensing and accuracy checking, patient interview and counselling for discharge. In addition the ward based teams are heavily involved in the governance of medicines through our regular cycle of audits.

With the current & future landscape for pharmacy professionals we have aligned our clinical pharmacy strategy to develop a pharmacy team that can function and excel in balancing patient care and service demand with their own professional development.

As part of working within a hospital pharmacy team the successful candidate will also be given the opportunity to work at ward level, within our inpatient dispensary and our brand new outpatient dispensary. You will also have an opportunity to provide a Medicines Management Pharmacy Services to our external hospices.

You must already be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council for a minimum of 2 years and hold the an Accredited Accuracy Checking Technician qualification.

You are expected to work within key performance indicators as part of the service provision and show you can work on your own initiative, with Pharmacists, Pharmacy Assistants, Nursing staff, Medical staff and other healthcare professionals in line with the Hospitals Trust Values.

To support both our ward based services and dispensary we use automation through our ROWA robot and automated storage cabinets at ward level. The Pharmacy utilises aspects of our EMIS/Ascribe system to automate ordering and checking wherever possible and recently adapted our outpatient clinics to use electronic prescriptions.

To support your development, full local training will be provided on medicines management and within the aseptic unit to the successful candidate and your development needs will be identified through an annual individual performance development review.

There will be a requirement to provide a service to the external hospices to which we provide a Pharmacy Service.
