Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join a very welcoming, ambitious, expanding dermatology team with an ever-growing reputation for excellence. The Dermatology service at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust and the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust is well supported by management and the Black Country Provider Collaborative. The department is based across two hospitals and the candidate will work at both sites. The department has recently received substantial investment in new theatres and hosts the regional Mohs Micrographic Surgery service. We also host a supra-regional vitiligo service and are research active.

Main duties of the job

  1. To assist the current team and have responsibility for ensuring a commitment to provide a high quality of Dermatology Services to patients by continual development of practice in the light of evidence-base, and clinical standards.
  2. To partake in Cancer MDT designated work working towards Cancer 2020 delivery.
  3. To provide advice to colleagues in other specialities on Dermatology care.
  4. To provide a comprehensive Outpatient service and dermatology procedure service.
  5. To support and encourage audit and research.
  6. To have responsibility for ensuring a commitment to maintaining a high quality of service to patients.

About us

At Walsall there is a dedicated area within the outpatient department for dermatology clinics. Clinics are supported by an experienced dermatology nursing team; consultants have access to BAD information sheets, an extensive dermatology formulary, cryotherapy, dermoscopy, clinical photography and reference textbooks. There are 2 dedicated rooms for dressings, wound care, patch testing and theatre recovery. Operative procedures can be undertaken within the dedicated Dermatology Day case operating theatres. There is an established advanced surgical service with appropriate facilities and equipment for skin flap and skin graft surgery.

At Wolverhampton there is a dedicated Dermatology department, with six clinic rooms. This facility has recently undergone significant investment with the development of three operating theatres to host the regional Mohs Micrographic Surgery service.

We offer a complete phototherapy service with TL01, bath PUVA, tablet PUVA and hand & foot phototherapy. We have purchased a new hand/foot phototherapy machine and have a modern TL01 cabinet. There are opportunities to develop our PDT and iontophoresis service with equipment available. There are nurse specialist led clinics for biologics, systemic immunosuppressants, isotretinoin, cryotherapy, phototherapy, minor surgery, skin cancer

counselling and skin cancer follow-up. There is an established nurse-led patch testing service.
