Job summary

Deputy Divisional Director of Operations (WCCSS) - 12 Month Secondment

The Deputy Divisional Director will be responsible for the day-to-day operational management of specialities / departments within the division. They will assist following directors in ensuring that the division delivers its financial, activity and quality targets and ensuring safe and high-quality care:

  • Divisional Director
  • Divisional Director of Clinical Support Services
  • Divisional Director of Midwifery, Gynaecology & Sexual Health
  • Director of Pharmacy
  • Divisional Director of Children, Young People & Neonates

They will also have a specific Divisional Portfolio to support the effective delivery of safe high-quality services comprising of, for example, Deputising for the Divisional Director have overall responsibility for ensuring monitoring and delivering of all performance standards targets, Divisional Lead for Business continuity and Resilience. Divisional Lead for achievement and monitoring to ensure a first-class patient experience. Divisional Lead for maximising integration and service improvement opportunities. Business Case oversight / assisting with their production within the Division.

Main duties of the job

  • Accountable for the effective and efficient delivery of a service or services
  • Responsible for development of specialty service plans that are constant with the strategic aims and objectives of the Trust.
  • Undertake with the Divisional Director of Operations the development of business and strategic plans: negotiating, securing resources needed and delivery.
  • Responsible with Clinical Directors and Care Group Managers for capacity planning and negotiation / successful delivery of Division's performance programme.
  • With the Divisional Director of Operations, have a lead responsibility for negotiation of service level agreements within the corporate framework.
  • Ensure business cases are produced for service models as part of the business case process.
  • Responsible for taking decisions on medical cover with advice from the clinical director and speciality leads,
  • Responsible for developing and leading improvement programs and agreeing and implementing them.
  • Deputise for Divisional Director of Operations as required.
  • Responsible for development and implementation of the service / Divisional policies.
  • Accountable for ensuring that capacity is maximised safely and efficiently.

About us

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is an integrated Trust and the only provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, serving a population of 286,700, providing inpatient and outpatient services at the Manor Hospital as well as a wide range of services in the community. Walsall Manor houses the full range of district general hospital services under one roof. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and the continued upgrading of existing areas ensures the Trust now has a state-of-the-art Critical Care Unit, Neonatal Unit, Obstetric Theatre, and Integrated Assessment Unit facilities. Work is also well underway on its multi-million pound new Urgent and Emergency Care Centre which will house a new Emergency Department (including Children's Emergency Department), co-located Paediatric Assessment Unit, Acute Medical Unit and Urgent Care Centre. This is scheduled for completion this year.
