Job summary
We are looking for motivated and enthusiastic Consultant Paediatric Consultant with a specialist interest in Neurology and Epilepsy to join our friendly team here at Dorset County Hospital.
This is a permanent, full time position of 10PA's (8.5 DCC & 1.5 SPA).
Main duties of the job
The post holder will contribute to the provision of an inpatient service including neonatal intensive care, acute paediatrics (including ambulatory care) and short-term intensive care. This position is a 10PA contract participating in a 1 in 10 week of on call. This on call is Monday-Friday and there are no other programmed activities and no on call nights during this period.
You will also be expected to participate in a second on call pattern (1:10) which will be another 5 days. You will be responsible for manning the Paediatric hot phone, providing Advice and Guidance, Rapid Access clinic and Child Safeguarding medicals.
Outpatient provision: The expected working days for this post are Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, but this is flexible and clinics can be moved if necessary to suit applicant's working/home arrangements. Much of the working week will consist of outpatient activity.
The successful candidate would be expected to lead the Neurology and Epilepsy services.

- Full GMC Registration
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) or CESR/portfolio pathway or European Community Rights
- Advanced Paediatric and Neonatal Resuscitation skills training in the last 4 years
Desirable
- An appropriate higher surgical/medical qualification
Experience & Knowledge
Essential
- 5 years clinical experience in Paediatrics at middle grade level including 6 months experience in tertiary neonatal unit or equivalent
- Experience demonstrating potential ability to cope with the demands of a DGH based Consultant
- Experience in a special interest that will complement those existing in the department
- Ability to demonstrate having achieved completencies equivalent to the completion of Specialist training
