Maternity Support Worker

Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic support worker to join the Maternity team. We are a small service with a very friendly team.We are looking for someone who has worked in a care giving role either in the private sector or in the NHS. Please be aware there is cleaning required in this role as well as personal care. There is also the opportunity to learn lots of clinical skills and specialise in certain areas of maternity care.You must be able to work nights, days and weekends and have a good attendance record.

Please be aware that this role is not currently eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants should be aware of the requirement to independently obtain ongoing right to work in the UK beyond the expiry of any temporary or time-limited permissions. Evidence of this will need to be shared with the HR Team to ensure our records remain up to date.

Main duties of the job

The main duties are varied and involve working closely with the midwifery team in the maternity unit. The successful candidate will carry out a wide range of tasks which support the maternity service including clinical skills, personalcare for women and advice about baby care and feeding.

There are opportunities to work in the community and to learn more specialist skills once you have completed your induction.There is also, a significant amount of cleaning rooms after women have laboured and given birth and when they have been discharged as well as changing beds and handing out meals.

Essential

  • GCSEs or equivalent demonstrating literacy and numeracy.
  • GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent or willingness to undertake level 2 functional skills) Certificates to be provided at interview.
  • Care Certificate or working towards

Desirable

  • Completion of a competency-based Workbook (MSW Passport), level 3 healthcare certificate or equivalent relevant experience
  • Understanding of basic physiology e.g. normal vital signs, fluid balance, nutritional requirements etc.
