Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Cardiac Nurse to join DCH Cardiology services as an Arrhythmia Nurse Specialist. The role is fixed term for 12 months.

The Arrhythmia Nurse Specialist will work closely with the Arrhythmia/Electrophysiology Consultant and the team of multi-disciplinary staff within the Cardiology department, to provide clinical support, education and clinical leadership to the development of the patient pathway.

This is a great opportunity for someone who has an appetite for Specialist nursing. Dependent on experience and current qualifications, the role would be considered as a trainee/development role, although the preference would be to attract someone already working within the specialist field of Cardiology.

Main duties of the job

Assist in the development and delivery of a high quality specialist service for patients with cardiac Arrhythmia as part of the Multi-disciplinary Cardiology team (MDT) at DCH.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the effective and efficient running of all aspects of the Arrhythmia service, including nurse led cardioversion service, rapid access atrial fibrillation clinic, palpitations clinic, and implantable cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) follow up clinic, including ICD support group for patients. The main focus of this role will be allow for the development and implementation of a secondary prevention AF clinic and device detected AF anticoagulation pathway.

The post holder will deliver a pre-assessment service to patients undergoing ICD implant, ICD box change and catheter ablation. this involves the follow up of results and discussing abnormalities with the clinician ahead of the procedure.

As a clinical nurse specialist the post holder will act as an accountable and autonomous practitioner (once deemed competent). It is expected that you would take the lead in the coordination and delivery of evidence based expert nursing care for patients with arrhythmia, their relatives, and their carers. The individual would use advance decision making skills to formulate treatment plans and initiate changes in management of nursing care when necessary.

Essential

  • Registered Nurse
  • Teaching qualification or equivalent practice supervisor/assessor
  • Non-Medical Independent prescribing qualification or a willingness to work towards
  • History taking and physical examination (HAPE) qualification
  • Recent and relevant CPD
  • ALS qualification
  • Arrhythmia management module

  • Existing experience of working as an Arrhythmia nurse or significant experience within the speciality at minimum of band 6
  • Significant recent experience within Cardiology
