Job summary

Applications are invited from enthusiastic experienced Phlebotomists ideally with experience of managing a team.You will lead our forward thinking, friendly, pro-active team providing a high quality and compassionate service to our patients across the varying clinical arenas within the Trust.We are looking for a self- motivated, hardworking individual with good manual dexterity, a 'can do' approach to their work, excellent communication and listening skills, comfortable with using their initiative and desire to support, develop and lead our Phlebotomy service within Dorset County Hospital Foundation Trust.

The post is based within Dorset County Hospital and will provide Phlebotomy leadership and support to the wards, the A & E Department , Paediatric clinics and outpatients clinics at both South Walks House and Weymouth Hospital. The service is a seven day a week service and operates 365 days per year. Staff are rostered for weekends and bank holidays.Experience with training and competency compliance is ideally required.

Main duties of the job

To facilitate and oversee a high quality and efficient Phlebotomy service to the Trust.

o To provide leadership, supervision and operational management of the Phlebotomy team.

o To daily manage the in-patient and out-patient Phlebotomy service. Ensuring the quality of the service and working to enhance patient experience of the service. To ensure the Phlebotomists are appropriately trained, subject to regular competency revalidation and where necessary performance managed.

o To participate in staff governance procedures such as staff recruitment, appraisal and attendance management.

o To adhere to the Trust policies, procedures and guidelines.

o Monitor the performance of the service and ensure it meets the needs of the users and patients.

o To develop the service as required in conjunction with the Care Group Service Manager.

o To ensure that i) a robust relationship of trust and understanding with patients and other groups and ii) a good public image and perception of the Phlebotomy service is always maintained.

Essential

  • Educated to GCSE level with Maths & English at grade C or above or Diploma or equivalent appropriate qualification, e.g. foundation degree or NVQ3 level qualification plus short courses or relevant experience to diploma level
  • Extensive venepuncture and cannulation knowledge & skills
  • Care Certificate or equivalent experience

  • Extensive phlebotomy experience ideally in a clinical environment
  • Experience in a managerial and operational management capacity
  • Experience/knowledge of the Pre-Analytical pathway
  • Understanding of the role of phlebotomy manager in delivering a phlebotomy service
