The post holder will be responsible for managing all aspects of the service provisions provided by the Cardiac physiology department and its strategies and development in support of the Trust's strategic planning, finance, and performance objectives.
Main duties of the job
Taking overall responsibility and accountability for the delivery of the complex functions that comprise the Echo-cardiology, Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) and all other cardiac physiology services.Providing the focal point for the clinical and management knowledge developed through training and experience to support cardiac physiology personnel.
The interpretation and reporting of highly specialist diagnostic tests; providing additional specialist advice to clinicians as required.Line management of Specialist Clinical 8a Leads and physiology personnel not assigned to the Clinical Leads.
Responsible for recruitment of specialist physiologists and support personnel required for maintenance of the cardiac physiology services.Undertake staff selection through short listing and interview process.Assessment of cardiac physiology performance through analysis of metrics, personnel appraisals, ad hoc 1:1 session, designation of training requirements for cardiac physiology career development aligned to strategy and cardiac physiology accreditations and professional standards.
Responsible for the financial and physical resources through financial budget holding and cardiac physiology asset and consumable management.Responsible for compiling the cardiac physiology annual strategic plan and all necessary capital bid submissions.
About us
The Trust expanded its cardiology services in 2017 with the addition of new consultants and the addition of a second cardiac lab to deal with demand. The interventional service provides daytime primary PCI service. The current PCI numbers are around 500 PCI cases per year. The 2 Catheter Labs have comprehensive facilities to enable: calcium modification (Intravascular lithotripsy, rotational atherectomy), intravascular imaging (integrated OFDI, OCT, intravascular ultrasound) and complete coronary physiology assessment with the Coroventis Abbott, and Philips Volcano platforms . The coronary intervention service provides elective and urgent PCI with an in-hours primary PCI service. There is also a Rapid Access Chest Pain Service, Cardiovascular Secondary Prevention Clinics, and a Cardiac Rehabilitation Service.
The Cardiology Department at Dorset County Hospital currently delivers the services of echocardiography, trans-oesophageal echocardiography, DSE, 24 hour and prolonged ambulatory monitoring, exercise tolerance testing including cardio-pulmonary exercise testing. We also have a comprehensive pacing and ICD service and implant around 300 simple pacemakers per year and 60 ICDs per year, the majority of which are CRT-D and around 20 CRT-P devices. There is a technician led ICD clinic and pacing clinic along with a nurse led chest pain clinic.
