Formulary Pharmacist

Full Time (1.0 WTE)

We have an exciting senior pharmacist opportunity to develop your understanding of medicines pathways in our Dorset health economy both commissioning of medicines and application of formulary management in Dorset County Hospital. You will work in a portfolio role jointly with Dorset County Hospital and NHS Dorset and we are looking for candidates who can fulfil full-time hours.

You will be responsible for the medicines drug decision making in areas of developing therapeutics in our system, and we are looking for someone who will work closely in collaboration with colleagues across the Dorset integrated care system to ensure that medicines optimisation is fully supported to a deliver cost-effective prescribing and high standards of patient care.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant(s) will be highly motivated, enthusiastic, and able provide detailed medicines expertise to colleagues in their environment. They will work well in a team and be able to maintain constructive relationships with key stakeholders. They will manage risks associated medicines optimisation in a complex healthcare environment, gather and share information, manage projects and deal with enquiries.

Our team has an exciting blend of experienced and innovative pharmacy professionals working in transforming pharmacy services, improving quality, safety and drug decision making in Dorset.

This position will be based at Dorset County Hospital and Vespasian House in Dorchester with the option to work from other partner locations in Dorset.

Both are friendly working environment within walking distance of Dorchester's historic centre. Dorchester has a vibrant social scene including the new Brewery Square development, shops, restaurants, cinemas, festivals and local farmers markets. Direct trains link London (2.5hrs), Weymouth (10mins) and the South West including Bristol and Bath. The Jurassic Coastline, an area of outstanding natural beauty, and the National Sailing Academy are only eight miles away.

Dorset County Hospital has a Trust-wide commitment for implementing digital technologies to optimise patient safety and streamline communication at the interface with primary care. The pharmacy department was redesigned and a state-of-the-art robot was fitted in 2020. Electronic prescribing (EPMA) is in place across the Trust.

Person Specification

Education, Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Masters degree or equivalent in Pharmacy
  • Full registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council of Great Britain (GB or NI)
  • Diploma/MSc in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent experience

Desirable

  • Qualified as an independent non-medical prescriber

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience operating at the level of a specialist clinical pharmacist or above
  • Experience in supervising and managing pharmacists & pharmacy technicians and performing appraisals
  • Experience of line management
  • Experience working within a formulary or pharmacoeconomic role

Skills and Abilities

  • Evidence of ability to influence prescribing practice
  • Can reflect and critically analyse own performance
  • Able to identify, prioritise and solve problems
