Job summary

This is a stimulating post for a MRI radiographer who is keen on high quality service development and delivery. The post holder will work alongside the Cross sectional Lead to ensure the development of the MRI Service at Dorset County Hospital. Dorset County Hospital currently has 2 MRI scanners and are looking to develop pathways for Cardiac MRI, Paediatrics and Breast MRI. We also have a mobile scanning service as part of the CDC programme.

The Diagnostic Imaging Department was rated GOOD by the CQC and has achieved Quality Standard for Imaging (QSI) Accreditation. Services are provided at the main Dorset County Hospital site and five community hospitals. The department has CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Interventional Radiology with approximately 170,0000 examinations per annum across the department.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an experienced, skilled, enthusiastic and innovative Lead MRI Radiographer ready to take up this challenging role in our friendly and dynamic department. Training in Cardiac MRI would be desirable. The Radiology Department is committed to facilitating flexible ways of working to help balance work and home life, whilst improving service delivery, motivation and morale.

Job responsibilities

To be an effective operational lead radiographer for the MRI service

  • To be responsible for the day to day management of the MRI service, optimising the use of resources and ensuring a safe and effective service.
  • To assist the Cross Sectional Lead with the strategic planning and development of the service in line with the department/trust strategic objectives and national policy/guidelines
  • To work with the Cross Sectional Lead to ensure MRI clinical governance including patient safety, evidence based practice and clinical audit.
  • To support and develop the MRI team (cross sectional radiographers, clinical support workers) providing an excellent and responsive diagnostic service and maintaining a high standard of patient care.
  • To work with the Cross Sectional Lead and Radiologists to improve the MRI service protocols and procedures.
  • To be the provider of expert knowledge within the area of speciality
  • To be deputise for the Cross Sectional Lead during periods of absence.
