Job summary

The clinical practice educator will work collaboratively with the senior sisters/matron within the CRCU to deliver effective, high quality, safe patient centred care.

She/he will facilitate continuing education, training and professional development for all CRCU nursing staff .and promote the acquisition of new skills and knowledge.

She/he will develop and participate in education programmes to ensure that nursing staff acquire the professional standards and competencies when caring for people.

About us

Critical Care at Dorset County Hospital has 12 beds which are used flexibly to provide high quality patient care for both level 3 and level 2 critically ill patients. Providing care for adults and paediatrics from all specialities, with a large range of conditions.

We are currently developing an expansion of our Critical Care Services as part of the Government's New Hospital Programme and in 2025/26 we plan to move into a new purpose built 24 bedded Unit. We will initially increase our critical care beds to 12, supported by a 4 bedded enhanced care service with the aim of increasing to 24 beds over the next 15 years. We are also planning to introduce a digital technology service. Both these projects are in the development stage and a successful applicant will be pivotal in shaping the changes and planning for the future with regard to layout, workforce and innovations.

The successful applicant will be offered an orientation programme from the practice educator team and will be provided with mentorship and coaching from a member of the Band 7 team. The post holder will also be encouraged to expand their role within the limits of their Professional status and attend additional educational opportunities within the Department and Trust.
