Job summary

Here at Dorset County Hospital the renal nursing team are looking for someone who is approachable and organised with excellent communication skills and the ability to liaise within the multidisciplinary team. To join our dedicated multi-disciplinary team you will need to be committed, caring and compassionate with at least one year's renal experience in order to make quick informed decisions for when escalation is required. You will also need to have IT skills & the ability to manage a variety of programmes & databases. You will be required to prioritise calls from patients and staff from Units, Specialist nurse teams and Doctors with issues with patient haemodialysis access and peritoneal dialysis catheter. You will need to work and communicate clearly and effectively with the Renal Access Specialist Nurse to assist with the prioritization and planning of both clinics and theatre slots.

Main duties of the job

You will be required to book patient transport and prepare the patient pathway paperwork and results from a variety of systems ready for that clinic to enable patient assessment.

We aim to help staff meet their individual training needs both in house and externally in order for you to develop advanced assessment & patient management skills. While this post is a Band 4 role, a Band 3 working towards a higher diploma in health and social care would be considered and supported to progress in the role should they be successful.

About us

DCH is the Regional Renal Unit for Dorset & South Somerset. The service covers a population of 1.49 million patients at four acute hospitals including Yeovil, Poole and Bournemouth. We have satellite units in Poole Yeovil & Bournemouth with plans for another.

Prince of Wales is our 15 bedded inpatient ward receiving referrals from the other local acute Trusts Inpatient support is often required for more than 330 haemodialysis patients, 26 peritoneal dialysis patients, 443 transplant patients, 300 low clearance patients & 3000 chronic renal failure patients.

Here at Dorset County Hospital our renal unit cares for patients at all stages of their condition and provides the supportive therapies, care and treatments required from an outpatient to an acute care setting. The team offers a full range of specialist services in order to support patients in a timely, safe supported and effective journey throughout the health care system. We offer pre dialysis care through specialist teams as well as ongoing programmes of care such as kidney transplantation, haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis.
