Dorset County Hospital sits at the heart of the community as the main provider of acute care to around 250,000 people in the west of Dorset. Our main site is in the county town of Dorchester near to the world-famous Jurassic Coast and other areas of outstanding natural beauty.
Our stroke services are growing following a £2.8m investment including the much-anticipated opening of a Hyper Acute Stroke Unit (HASU).
Our stroke department provides a seven-day service for circa 530 stroke patients admitted annually from West Dorset. This has the potential to increase to around eight hundred with the outcome of a regional stroke reconfiguration programme.
The Stroke Unit is a twenty-four bedded acute unit with a fourteen bedded stroke and neuro rehabilitation facility at the Yeatman Community Hospital in North Dorset. The acute unit cares for patients requiring close monitoring and observation, encompassing acute care skills, following thrombolysis and repatriation following specialist intervention such as thrombectomy as well as patients requiring rehabilitation needs.

Main duties of the job
The role of a Healthcare Assistant is a very privileged role, as a HCA you will provide personal care and support to patients at their most vulnerable times. You will work alongside a multidisciplinary team to provide a compassionate, caring and safe environment for our patients.
To excel in this role you will
- Have excellent communication skills and be able to work as part of a team.
- Have an eye for detail and be able to maintain accurate documentation.
- Be flexible and willing to work across a variety of adult wards within DCHFT
