Senior Decontamination Technician

Job summary

The post holder assists in the decontamination and distribution of flexible endoscopes for use in direct patient care. They also provide support to qualified nursing and ancillary staff in all areas of the Trust that specialise in endoscopic procedures.

Main duties of the job

The post holder:

  1. Applies theoretical knowledge to decontaminate all endoscopes and accessories in accordance with the unit policies, BSG guidelines, Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) and manufacturer's guidelines.
  2. Ensures the correct use of PPE at all times for both self and others consistent with Trust infection control and COSHH requirements.
  3. Applies theoretical knowledge in the use of the scope tracking system to initiate cleaning and decontamination in the EWDs.
  4. Responsible for data entry onto the Wassenburg IT system.
  5. Maintains the endoscopes in line with the annual service contracts and manufacturer's recommendations.
