Job summary
The Clinical Engineer undertakes preventative maintenance, calibration, repair and safety testing on a wide range of complex medical devices, including high-risk life-support and diagnostic equipment. Working independently across clinical and workshop environments, the postholder provides specialist fault-finding, technical advice and equipment lifecycle support, ensuring compliance with safety, regulatory and quality standards. The role requires strong engineering expertise, effective communication with clinical teams and the ability to manage workload priorities while contributing to technical training, risk management and continual service improvement.
Main duties of the job
The post holder is responsible for working in clinical or technical (workshop) areas to carry out scheduled preventative maintenance, servicing, repair, calibration, safety andacceptance testing. Further to this to work independent with an on-call facility coveringmultiple specialties as the role will allow for High level unsupervised work on high-risklifesaving and life-support devices with the intention to train and reduce the need forspecialist contracts. The Post holder will liaise with clinical, technical and supplier staff toidentify faults and repair a wide range of medical equipment and is required to work tohigh standards of safety and accountability. The post will adhere to any training guidancecreated for the training pathway.
Due to the operational nature of the Clinical Engineering and Equipment Library services,postholders are required to work on-site on a full-time basis to ensure effective day-to-dayservice delivery and timely response to clinical needs. Working patterns will be agreed inaccordance with the needs of the service and the organisational structure. Whereapplicable, staff may also be expected to participate in an on-call rota to support out-of hours service continuity.
