Job summary
The Clinical Engineer supports the safe and effective use of medical devices by performing preventative maintenance, repairs, calibration and safety testing across a wide range of patient-critical equipment. The role requires technical problem-solving, independent working and close liaison with clinical teams to diagnose faults, plan servicing and ensure equipment meets regulatory and safety standards. Acting as a core technical specialist within the department, the postholder contributes to quality improvement, risk management and the wider lifecycle management of medical technology.
Main duties of the job
The post holder is responsible for working in clinical or technical (workshop) areas to carryout scheduled preventative maintenance, servicing, repair, calibration, safety andacceptance testing. The Post holder should have the ability to work independently and willliaise with clinical, technical and supplier staff to identify faults and repair a wide range ofmedical equipment and is required to work to high standards of safety and accountability.
The post will adhere to any training guidance created for the training pathway to seniorlevel and the core of the post is to supply technical expertise at the department level actingas key person for problem solving within the trust for medical devices. The option to repairthe machinery both electrical and mechanical for a complete in-depth PPM task needs tobe considered for part of this role.
Due to the operational nature of the Clinical Engineering and Equipment Library services,postholders are required to work on-site on a full-time basis to ensure effective day-to-dayservice delivery and timely response to clinical needs. Working patterns will be agreed inaccordance with the needs of the service and the organisational structure. Whereapplicable, staff may also be expected to participate in an on-call rota to support out-of hours service continuity.
