Safeguarding Specialist for Children

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, enthusiastic, and committed health professional to join Kingston and Richmond Foundation Trust's (KRFT) Safeguarding Children's Team. This is a 1-year fixed term contact for a part - time (0.6 WTE) band 7, to cover maternity leave within the team.

You need to be a Registered Paediatric Nurse and /or Health Visitor with knowledge and experience of acute/community health services as you will be working across Kingston hospital and Richmond community to ensure safeguarding practice and continuum of care for babies, children and young people. The role encompasses promoting a positive culture of safeguarding within the Trust to ensure it is part of everyone's everyday practice.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will contribute to the delivery of safeguarding services supporting the Trust's Named Nurse and Named Doctor for Safeguarding Children as per guidance as set out within the Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018, Children's Act 1998 and 2004, Kingston and Richmond Safeguarding Partnership (KRSCP) procedures and other national and local legislation and policy.

You will work closely with the Named Nurse ensuring that staff can access advice, support and education, in relation to safeguarding children, when needed in a timely manner. Promoting a positive culture of safeguarding within the Trust to ensure it is part of everyone's everyday practice.

The post holder will be required to contribute towards policy development and review, deliver supervision and training, within the Trust. You will be expected to participate in audits and Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews and represent the hospital by attending safeguarding children's meetings at Local Safeguarding Children Partnership subgroups. The post will require the need for flexible working across both sites (hospital and community), as required to meet the needs of the service.

Essential

  • Registered Nurse RN (Child) or RN and Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (HV)
  • ENB 998 or recognised teaching/assessing qualification
  • Evidence of post registration safeguarding training

Desirable

  • Educated to degree level in relevant subject area with the ability to work at MSc level

Experience and Knowledge

Essential

  • Experience working as a health visitor community/and / or acute nurse in field of safeguarding children
  • Experience in multi-disciplinary working
  • Relevant experience of working in the child protection field
  • Knowledge of the current government guidelines relating to Child Protection work and its implications for practice
  • Skilled in the education and training of other professionals
