Job summary
In collaboration with Dementia UK, Kingston and Richmond NHS Foundation Trust (KRFT) are looking to recruit a registered nurse with a passion for, and experience of, providing relationship-centred dementia care with a strong sense of advocacy and equalities for this client group to join our Dementia and Delirium team based in the Emergency Department in Kingston Hospital.
Admiral Nurses are specialist dementia nurses who work with and support people with dementia and their families who have complex needs. This is a new exciting role where the post holder will be responsible for providing specialist support, guidance and practical solutions for families and people living with dementia to enable admission avoidance and/or timely safe discharge.
You will receive ongoing support from Dementia UK to maintain and strengthen your clinical expertise as a specialist nurse within dementia care. You will also become part of the wider network of Admiral Nurses and will have the opportunity to access relevant post graduate courses and develop professionally, as informed by the Admiral Nurse Competency Framework.
The successful applicant will be an NMC registered (adult/mental health/learning disability) nurse, with significant post-registration clinical experience of working with people with dementia and supporting their carers/supporters in different settings, including the acute setting, along with formal knowledge of dementia acquired through clinical post-graduate training/education
Main duties of the job
The Admiral Nurse will be based in the emergency department and will lead, deliver and coordinate relationship-centred dementia care to improve the experience of carers/families affected by dementia[1] with complex needs, when presenting to Kingston Hospital. The focus of the role will be to identify opportunities for admission deflection and turnaround, where admission is unavoidable, the Admiral Nurse will positively influence patient's episode of care.
The post holder will provide:
- Specialist bio-psychosocial assessment and support for people with dementia and families with complex needs
- Facilitation of education and training for staff in the delivery of evidence-based dementia care
- Clinical leadership with policy development and quality improvements
- Consultancy to other health and social care professionals regarding dementia
