Job summary

Currently we have a position for a full time Radiographer Helper (Band 3) within our service, which incorporates all general radiographic assistant duties. A wide range of imaging modalities are used within Radiology, including X-ray, CT scanning and Nuclear Medicine. The service currently undertakes approximately 350,000 examinations per year.

The post-holder will join our existing team of Radiographer Helpers, who assist both radiographers and radiologists with their clinical work. Administrative and clerical work is also part of the role.

These positions will incorporate some time within our mammography and gynaecological ultrasound areas.

A flexible working attitude is essential, as the service runs extended hours working across a 7 day working week.

To provide help and support to radiologists, radiographers, sonographers and clerical staff within agreed standards. To provide help and assistance to patients, patient's relatives and friends. Job description

Job responsibilities

Clinical

  1. Assisting in the care of patients.
  1. Explaining dressing/undressing requirements to patients and assisting with this when necessary.
  1. Escorting immobile patients to the toilet or assisting them with bedpans etc.
  1. Lifting and transferring of patients.
  1. Escorting of patients and their relatives.
  1. Transporting patients around the department in beds and wheel chairs.
  1. Assisting radiographers with difficult patients.
  1. Assisting radiologists with interventional procedures i.e. breast biopsies.
  1. Maintaining high standards of cleanliness of equipment and accessories. Ensuring that examination rooms and changing cubicles are kept clean, tidy and well stocked with supplies, gowns etc.
  1. Assisting radiographers during radiographic and other imaging procedures.

Administrative

  1. Clerical duties as required including registration of patients, organisation of ward lists.
  1. Entering patient details into ultrasound scanner database.
  1. Confirming patient attendance
  1. Preparing radiologist and sonographer work for typing by the secretaries.
  1. Obtaining previous films from film file when necessary.
  1. Obtaining patient notes from medical records when necessary.
  1. Ordering of supplies for radiology. i.e. paper products, linen.
  1. Distributing xray requests and transporting films and cassettes form xray room to viewing room etc.

Communication

12. To respond effectively and professionally to telephone and face-to-face enquiries, both internal and external, using tact, discretion and sensitivity as appropriate to the situation and escalate where appropriate.

13. To communicate verbally with all members of the multi-disciplinary team within the hospital (including consultants and clinical staff).

14. To acts as a responsible member of the team seeking help when necessary

  1. Responsible for identifying adverse incidents and situations and/or potential risks and take appropriate action in line with trust and departmental procedures.

  1. Ensure the correct manual handling techniques are used when transferring patients
