Job summary

Responsible for the management and delivery of a section of the monthly payroll.

Responsible for the daily management of a section of the Payroll ensuring a timely and quality service for the monthly payroll.

Ensures that the payroll information is processed in accordance with payroll procedures, the Trust's policies and statutory regulations.

To deputise for the Payroll Team Leader as appropriate, assisting with day-to-day management of the entire payroll team.

To assist with the induction and training of new and current payroll staff, with the emphasis of completing work within the financial timescales and legal requirements.

Main duties of the job

Production of a section of the monthly payroll within strict quality guidelines.

Analyses, investigates, and resolves queries on weekly reports and amends as appropriate from a range of options.

Discusses payroll queries with staff, Managers, Human Resources staff which are often complex, including reasons for delays in payment and other sensitive issues.

Discusses payroll issues that may be contentious, deals with performance, coaching, training, and other issues relating to payroll clerks.

Initiates a section of the monthly payroll pay run for auditing purposes and ensures amendments are corrected prior to the final pay run.

Responsible for inputting of monthly Payroll section, ensuring data is accurately and efficiently entered.

Makes recommendations for changes to working practices and procedures within own area, which also have an impact in other areas.

Ensures compliance with the rules of the NHS Pensions Agency in deducting appropriate sums from payroll payments. To manage pension rebates/extra payment instructions as required.

To input and complete documentation for allowances and deductions in accordance with Trust/Agenda for Change terms and conditions.

To calculate payments due under Occupational Sickness, Statutory Sickness and Maternity Pay Schemes.

Verifies income tax entries.
