Job summary

The Trust is recruiting to Trust Trainee Registrar rotations which are approved for IMT3 training. The vacant posts include AAU, Care of the Elderly/Stroke, Diabetes & Endocrinology. Part of the role includes being part of the unselected Medical Take, SDEC and weekend ward discharge registrar.

Main duties of the job

While not deanery funded, these will all be training posts with full Educational and Clinical supervision. Please see JRCPTB website for details of IMT alternative certificate.

All trainees will be encouraged to enrolled onto the Royal College of Physicians e-portfolio and be entitled to study leave.

These posts are ideal for those looking for their first registrar post in a busy but supportive training environment and are fully approved for IMT3. IMT (Internal Medicine Training is the UKs new training scheme for medicine that replaces CMT (Core Medical Training and the first year of Specialty Registrar training). It's aim to is better prepare trainees for the rigors of being a medical registrar and consultant in a changing NHS (https://www.jrcptb.org.uk/imt). These posts offer the opportunity to gain experience in a chosen specialty or the option to taste more than one specialty if your career choice is not yet clear. They would also be ideal for those more senior trainees aiming for Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR). Successful trainees are welcome to re-apply for a second six months.

Job responsibilities

Acute medicine

The Acute Assessment Unit (AAU) comprises a 50-bedded purpose-built unit located on the ground floor of the hospital. The AAU operates in close association with the ED, Same day emergency care (SDEC) and the medical/care of elderly wards. Patients stay on the AAU for up to 72 hours, during which time a management plan is devised and executed by the acute medical teams together with in reach from specialty medicine.

Respiratory Medicine

The post holder will work with a dynamic team looking after in- and out-patients with a wide variety of respiratory presentations. The team is based on a 30 bedded ward general medicine and respiratory ward (Hamble) and is supported by respiratory physiotherapists, and a full range of multi-disciplinary professionals.

Cardiology

We have a busy 36 bedded cardiology ward (Bronte ward). We provide a full complement of diagnostic and interventional investigations/procedures for patients as IP and OP.

Diabetes and Endocrinology Department

The Endocrinology team consists of 7 full time consultants, 6 whole time equivalent diabetes specialist nurses including a dedicated inpatient diabetes team, 2 specialist dietitians and one diabetes podiatrist.

Care of the elderly medicine

The post offers training in the acute management of patients of elderly patients (particularly those living with frailty) admitted to hospital, including the care and management of patients with complex bio-psycho-social needs.
