Job summary

The broad responsibilities of the post are:

    • Second-tier community child health assessments
    • Neurodevelopmental and Behavioural Paediatrics
    • Child Protection assessments
    • Educational assessment
    • Assessment of Looked after Children

Main duties of the job

The Department works closely with its associated general paediatric department at Kingston Hospital. It aims to provide a timely holistic child and family health. Assessment identifying health needs, providing care plans to meet the need, working with education and social care to produce where appropriate the Health, Education and Care Plan.

Job responsibilities

1. The Child Development Service is to provide a coordinated multi-disciplinary team approach to assessment and management of children with disabilities.

2. Specialist Childrens Services include Paediatricians, Specialist Nurses and Therapists. Within the Specialist Childrens Services is the child development team, neonatal hearing screening, second tier paediatric audiological, child protection, LAC services and a child health information department.

3.There are close links with CAMHS, CAMHS -LD, Hounslow education, including Portage and TSS and Hounslow social services (social work team for children with disabilities).

4.A core Child Development Team consists of a pediatrician, physiotherapist, OT and SLT. Multi-disciplinary assessments including autism assessments take place every week.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Qualified medical practitioner
  • Full GMC registration

Desirable

  • Post graduate qualification: eg MRCPH, Msc, DCH, DCCH, MBA or other relevant diplomas

Experience

Essential

  • Have completed at least four years (full time equivalent) post full registration as a medical practitioner,

Desirable

  • Experience in assessing child development
  • Experience in child protection
  • Experience in other areas relevant to child health eg general practice, child health, sexual health, obstetrics, public health
  • Specialist experience in one or more areas of practice eg ADHD, ASD, audiology

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of how working in community settings differs from hospital
  • Ability to assess a normal child and to recognise and appropriately manage abnormality
  • Willingness to work without immediate supervision but with an awareness of one's individuals limitations
