Job summary

The Payroll Section Manager will be required to manage a busy Section within Payroll ensuring the processing of salaries, wages, personal expenses and pensions administration within the Section. The role involves ensuring a comprehensive payroll service is provided to Managers, Human Resources, Finance and all employees of the Trust.

Main duties of the job

Responsible for weekly and monthly payroll controls and reconciliation. The Payroll Section Manager ensures that payrolls are processed in accordance with policies and procedures and investigates complex enquiries providing assistance and advice. Completes annual statutory returns in line with statutory deadlines. Investigating and answering queries both verbal and written.

Essential

  • CIPP qualified or Post Grad Diploma Level or equivalent experience within the NHS

Desirable

  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Extensive experience in NHS Payroll & Pensions
  • Extensive knowledge of PAYE legislation and NHS terms and conditions of employment.
  • Extensive knowledge of ESR and feeder NHS systems.
  • An appreciation of the need for consistency and governance.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of NHS Pensions and its impact to staff pay.
  • Knowledge of cost centre structure and the importance of accurate pay data transferred to the GL.
  • Knowledge of excel for Web ADI and detailed financial calculations.

  • Ability to lead and motivate staff.
  • Advanced problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines.
