Job summary
Microsoft Windows Server Specialist
The Kingston Hospital IM&T department maintains an enterprise environment of over 200 servers and 4000 end users.This person will have a wide remit involving Windows Servers and work in areas ranging from 3rd line support to system development. They will need to stay on top of new technologies and look for ways of streamlining and improving currently implemented systems.
Key Skills
The person in this role will need to manage themselves with minimum direction and take the lead to resolve operational technical issues with servers. They will need to be confident under pressure and able to provide advice to users and peers as a subject matter expert. Windows Server will be their primary specialism.
The successful candidate will have expert technical knowledge of Windows Server operating systems and Active Directory. They need to demonstrate a high level of technical knowledge in, and experience of, server virtualisation (on VMware) and functionality such as domain name services, group policy management, authentication and security features.
Key to the role is good experience of troubleshooting complex problems involving Window Server and its interactions with hardware and other software. They must have good experience of scripting technologies such as PowerShell, and have demonstrable experience of developing Microsoft technology based solutions.
A professional and security-focused approach is critical, given the nature of the role.
Main duties of the job
Summary
This post will be part of the Server and Network support function within the Network Services Team. Other duties include planning and implementing system changes on live platforms without unexpected service impacts.
We are looking for an individual with experience in an IT technical role who has at least 5 years' experience of delivering and supporting servers in a large enterprise environment (2500+ users & 75+ servers). Experience of working in the NHS would be preferable.
