Job summary

JOB TITLE: Adult Psychiatry Specialty Doctor for 24 hour Mental Health Crisis Assessment Hub CONTRACT: Full time 1.0 WTE Permanent or fixed term as preferred BASE: Queens Hospital, Rom Valley Way, Romford, RM7 0AG This post is for a Specialty Doctor in Psychiatry Psychiatric Liaison Team based at Queens Hospital, Barking, Havering, and Redbridge University Trust (BHRUT), Rom Valley Way, Romford, RM7 0AG. This is a full-time substantive post with 8 Direct Clinical Contact sessions (DCC) and 2 Supporting Professional Activities sessions (SPAs) across five days (10 sessions). The purpose of this job description is to outline the level of responsibility and accountability of this post. This will ensure that all work undertaken by our staff is clearly identified and carried out under clear lines of accountability.

Main duties of the job

Aim of the role: The expectation of the post holder will be to support their team, department and organisation to follow the Trusts Values in their day-to-day work; we are kind, we are respectful and we work with our communities 1.1 Job Title: Liaison Adult Psychiatry Specialty Doctor This is a well-established substantive, full-time post. The previous postholder has gone onto a training scheme to complete their Psychiatry training. On-call responsibilities The post does not currently include on call responsibilities however, there is an out of hours rota that you are welcome to join for ad hoc out of hours shifts paid at bank rates.

1.2 Main responsibilities

The post holder will support the Consultant Psychiatrists and multidisciplinary team in delivering high-quality care within the Psychiatric Liaison Service. Working both independently and collaboratively, they will contribute to clinical decision-making, supervise junior colleagues, and liaise with health and social care professionals. The role involves direct patient care for adults in crisis and engagement with families, as well as coordination with external mental health services and acute hospitals. The post holder will also be expected to take a lead on emergency Mental Health Act assessments of adult/older adult patients subject to Section 136 presenting within the liaison setting during working hours.

You will work alongside 1.4 wte General Adult Consultant Psychiatrists (Dr Gavin McKay, Dr Simona Ionita and Dr Sally Daly), 1.6wte Old Age Consultant Psychiatrist (Dr Stephen O’Connor, and Dr Gareth Smith), one higher Trainee in older adult team and a Core trainee in the general adult team.

  • Section 12 Approval or a commitment to work towards this.

Experience

  • Experience in the management of a broad range of mental disorders in adults
  • At least 4 years of full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time basis) of which at least 2 years will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee or shall have equivalent experience and competencies.
