Clinical Nurse Specialist Special Schools

Job summary

Working in partnership with the wider multidisciplinary team, the post holder will lead the development, implementation and evaluation of a seamless specialist nursing service, ensuring children and young people receive the highest standards of clinical care.

As a nursing expert, the post holder will demonstrate advanced knowledge and clinical expertise within the specialist service, providing advice, education and support to staff, children and young people, and their families and carers. Care will be delivered across schools, Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) units, and Additionally Resourced Provisions (ARPs) within mainstream schools.

Main duties of the job

  • Take professional responsibility for maintaining clinical and professional standards in line with Trust policies, values, NMC Code of Practice, and relevant national guidance.

  • Act as a key point of contact for children and young people in schools, special schools, SEND units and ARPs, offering assessment, advice, and information to families, carers and staff.

  • Support the delivery of high-quality, holistic, patient-centred care, contributing to staff development through education, training, role modelling and supervision.

  • Lead and co-ordinate aspects of care, manage team performance, and act as a role model, reporting to th Clinical Lead Nurse.

  • Undertake and support audit activity to monitor and improve clinical standards and outcomes.

  • Teach, mentor and supervise colleagues, trainees and students, promoting professionalism and Trust values.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period.

Starting with Us

NELFT places great importance on new starters being properly welcomed into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks, including mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process, new starters will also have the opportunity to meet the executive team, senior managers, and attend several drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing, and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

High Cost Area Supplement - Outer London

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,714 to a maximum of £5,941p.a. pro rata for part time).
