Community Staff Nurse - Special School Nursing

Job summary

Due to additional funding, there is an exciting opportunity to expand the already well-established Special school and complex needs nursing team in Redbridge.

We are looking for registered Paediatric nurses, who will work as a member of the Specialist School Nursing Team, supporting a defined caseload of children and young people aged 3-19 years with complex healthcare needs and disabilities within the community and school settings. You will assess, manage, plan and deliver care, being professionally and legally accountable

The post holder will work in schools, with children with a range of learning disabilities and complex health needs, in partnership with other professionals and agencies in order to meet identified care needs. The nursing team establish and maintain effective communication, working closely with parents and carers, education and other agencies to ensure the children achieve their full potential in school.

Main duties of the job

To assist and facilitate a flexible team approach in meeting the health needs of the local school age population working with members of the team to identify areas of service development which meet identified needs and government.

To enable the team to develop and adapt to meet future health needs.

Working in the education setting, training and supporting non-medical staff to perform the

day to day needs of the children

Continence assessments and reviews.

To encourage and facilitate the team to be reflective practitioners and to deliver effective research and evidence-based services.

To support the team to work towards achieving the service and clinical governance targets.

To co-ordinate holistic and equality of care in the provision of services to the school age population.

To build alliances, to achieve health gain as a key contact with the GP's, primary care practitioners and other allied statutory and voluntary agencies regarding issues relating to the team or the service they provide.

To actively maintain and increase knowledge base and to develop the special school and complex needs nursing service through evidence-based practice.

To undertake mandatory training as required.

To assist and facilitate a flexible team approach in meeting the health needs of the local school age population working with members of the team to identify areas of service development which meet identified needs and government.

About us

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

High-Cost Area Supplement

This post also attracts payment for High-Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,714 and a maximum payment of £5,941) pro rata for part time staff.
