An exciting opportunity has arisen for band 3 Phlebotomists to join our community phlebotomy team.

Main duties of the job

We are looking to recruit Phlebotomists to work in our busy fast paced service and require keen and enthusiastic individuals to join our team. The successful applicant must be flexible, a good team worker and be able to communicate effectively with patients, carers and other members team.

We currently run phlebotomy clinics across Barking & Dagenham (B&D), Havering and Redbridge. In addition, we have a small team of phlebotomists that carry out home visits in B&D, Havering and Redbridge (BHR). We are also looking to expand our services across more locations, so now would be an exciting time to join us!

You will work under the direction of the Phlebotomy Leadand will ensure a clean, comfortable and safe environment for service users.

About us

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

High-Cost Area Supplement

This post also attracts payment for High-Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,551 and a maximum payment of £5,735) pro rata for part time staff.

Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ level 2 or equivalent standard of literacy and numeracy
  • Accredited Qualification in Venepuncture
  • Basic First Aid Qualification
  • Good communication and IT skills

Experience

Essential

  • Broad experience in taking bloods
  • Experience of Training junior members of staff in clinical and administrative procedures
  • Experience of responsibility for maintaining stock of clinical supplies and other basic Administrative duties including arranging appointments
  • Be familiar and conversant with blood collection equipment in terms of their use and function
  • To comply and understand how to take corrective action in case of an untoward event

Desirable

  • Some experience with paediatric patients

Knowledge

Essential

  • Ability to understand office procedures and work on own initiative within appropriate guidelines
  • Have a working understanding of general Phlebotomy principles.
