Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Social Worker within the Low Secure Forensic Inpatient setting

Join our our Forensic Low Secure Ward whichprovides specialist mental health care for individuals requiring a structured setting with compassionate, expert led support.

We focus on rehabilitation, risk management and recovery, helping patients regain independence and transition to a brighter future. With a dedicated team of professionals, we offer personalised, treatment plans, therapeutic interventions on this secure empowering unit.

Morris ward is a low secure inpatient service which cares for patients detained under the mental health act who requires care and treatment, under conditions of low security due to the nature of the risk they pose to themselves and others.

The service will accept men aged 18 and over with severe and enduring mental illness who have persistent, complex and challenging needs who cannot be safely assessed and treated in an open and acute facility and do not require the level of security only available in medium and high secure settings.

This includes histories of aggression, absconding, criminal offences, severe and intractable clinical symptoms , serious drug alcohol misuse.

The ward team includes a medical team, consultant psychiatrist, nurses and occupational therapists.

Main duties of the job

The post will provide specialist assessment and intervention to service users within the Low secure setting. You will work as part of the multi-disciplinary team to provide a coordinated service, contributing specialist knowledge and advice to others involved in the service user's care.The post holder needs to be an enthusiastic and innovative Social Worker with experience of working with adults.

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

High-Cost Area Supplement

This post also attracts payment for High-Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,551 and a maximum payment of £5,735) (pro rata for part time staff).

Essential

  • NVQ level 2 or equivalent standard of literacy and numeracy
  • Current RMN / HCP registration
  • Teaching qualification (ENB 998, TICS, MELPS etc)

Experience

Essential

  • Working with older people with complex, acute mental health needs.
  • Providing staff supervision and appraisal to both qualified and non-professionally aligned staff
  • Evidence of post-registration clinical development.
  • To have experience of assessing, planning implementing and evaluating aspects of care.
