Job summary

Barking and Dagenham school nursing service provides the National Measurement Programme for all reception and year 6 children within the borough.

Barking and Dagenham have one of the highest rates within the UK for children identified as obese.

This new role has been developed in partnership with LBBD public health to provide early support including nutrition and physical advice to children and their families where the children have been identified as overweight or obese.

We are looking for a motivated individual who has a wide experience of providing support and advice to support nutrition and growth through healthy eating and physical health with skills and knowledge about psychological and behaviour change. We are looking for someone who has a Diploma qualification or equivalent in Public Health , Nutriton , Physical activity and has experience of working with children and young people between ages of 5 - 18 years old

Main duties of the job

To work in partnership with School nurses, healthy schools, voluntary services and early help in supporting children with nutritional support and guidance to families to help improve healthy eating.

Support children 1:1 in nutrition advice and encourage physical activity

Provide hints and tips to families and carers on healthy family meals and snacks.

Provide group support

Linking in with wider LBBD support systems in supporting healthy activities in children and young people, including the Healthy Schools team.

Having a positive effect on children's physical and mental health

Working with School Nurses and schools to identify where health inequalities are impacting on children's nutrition that will then support programmes of service to target most vulnerable of areas.

About us

Starting with NELFTNELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).High Cost Area Supplement - London

This post attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,551 and a maximum payment of £5,735 per annum pro rata).
