Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced community nursery nurse with experience within 0-19 universal services to enhance their skills and knowledge within the new Pre and Post Birth Multiagency Team.This team will work alongside and in partnership with Children's Social Care in Redbridge to support families through pregnancy until 1yr post birth where an enhanced need is identified. The post holder will be based alongside children's social care within Lynton House in Ilford.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will support the specialist health visitors and wider team to offer support and guidance to parents and babies from pregnancy to 1yr. The post holder will be visiting Mothers/parents to support the physical and emotional needs of them and their babies. The post holder will be required to work as part of the team and be able to act as an autonomous practitioner working on their own initiative. They will have a commitment to collaborative working to ensure that babies are offered the best possible start in life.

The post holder will work as part of the wider team with the aim to reduce safeguarding risks and reduce health inequalities.

The post holder will be required to have a minimum of 3yrs experience working in the community and be able to demonstrate experience working with vulnerable families.

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

High-Cost Area Supplement

This post also attracts payment for High-Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,551 and a maximum payment of £5,735) pro rata for part time staff.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To work as part of the multiagency pre and post birth team, supporting parents and babies up to 1yr old.

To support in the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme to families being managed by the multiagency pre and post birth team.

To support providing health promotion and education as required.

To support with infant feeding advice and support antenatally and postnatally.

To assist in identifying additional needs of parents and babies.

To work with vulnerable families, being adaptive to need.

To be able to contribute to assessment of the families on the caseload, providing knowledge around child development.

To act in accordance with Trust policy and guidelines regarding Child Protection as set out in the Child Protection Manual, the London Child Protection Procedures and local Identification and Tracking procedures including escalation of concerns identified

To participate in health led services as directed by the Health Visitors in accordance with Trust guidelines/procedures/policies/protocols

To carry out home visits as appropriate and directed by the specialist health visitor.

To offer practical support and advice on caring for a new baby.

To offer support and advice around safe sleep, with the intention of supporting the prevention Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

To liaise with other professionals on matters related to safeguarding issues.

To provide information to child protection conferences as required in relation to specific cases, following local and national safeguarding procedures.

To work autonomously, with support of direct line manager and wider team.
