Clinical/Counselling Psychologist - Havering Adult MH

Job summary

We are seeking an HCPC registered psychologist with interest in working with people in later life to join the Older Adult Mental Health Team (OAMHT). The successful candidate will hold a qualification in either clinical or counselling psychology to DPsych level or equivalent, with at least 6 months experience of working directly with older people.

The OAMHT offers multi-disciplinary assessment and intervention for people with complex mental health needs in later life, including people with SMI, mood disorders and/or cognitive impairment with associated emotional needs. The post-holder will provide psychological input to the team, working with an established, full-time highly specialist Clinical Psychologist, and alongside colleagues in the co-located Memory Service. Previous experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team will be an advantage. Specialist supervision will be provided for the post, and the postholder will be eligible for CPD opportunities aligned to the NHS Long-term plan and also through research programmes. Past postholders in this, or equivalent, posts have had the opportunity to engage with specialist training in EMDR, CBT for psychosis, CBT for personality disorders, Family Interventions, and ACT for treatment-resistant generalised anxiety disorder.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will achieve this by: Providing a specialist psychological service to the Older Person's CMHT for people presenting with complex mental health problems and psychological distress who may benefit from psychological interventions.

Carrying out professionally based duties and responsibilities in the following areas: clinical practice, service development, teaching and training, work with other agencies, consultancy and/or applied research and service evaluation.

Supporting the professional development of psychological services through consultation to other qualified psychological practitioners on late-life concerns, supervision of assistant psychologists, and, with appropriate experience, supervision of trainee psychologists

Keeping up to date with developments in psychology and psychological therapies, especially as they apply to older people, frailty and long-term conditions in order to maintain the highest possible standard of skills and knowledge, and to disseminate these appropriately

Advising colleagues in psychological matters within the post-holder's area of expertise and to participate in service development programmes.

Raising the profile of psychological approaches in human health problems and promoting an holistic biopsychosocial model of service delivery

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focussing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

High Cost Area Supplement - Outer London

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,313 to a maximum of £5,436 p.a. pro rata for part time).

High Cost Area Supplement - Fringe

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 5% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £1,192 to a maximum of £2,011 p.a. pro rata for part time).
