An exciting opportunity has arisen within the special school nursing team in Barking and Dagenham for fixed term Maternity cover.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated children's nurse who has the following experience and drive:

  • Nursing degree
  • Evidence of working with CYP with additional needs
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to travel across the borough

Main duties of the job

  • The main responsibilities of the post are:

    • Being responsible for organising your own workload whilst supporting the team with the day to day allocation of work.
    • Supporting children in school with health needs; delivering training, supporting School staff in managing the children's health needs, completing care plans for children requiring emergency or routine medical intervention whilst in school.
    • Having a close working relationship with the wider multi-disciplinary teams.
    • Act as a mentor and support to junior staff/students.
    • Being an advocate for the Children/Young People when there are safeguarding concerns.
    • Supporting with Paediatric clinics.
    • Completing Looked After Children yearly review health assessments.
    • Ensuring new starter assessments are completed prior to new students starting school.
    • Undertaking growth reviews for Children.
    • Ensuring School staff have a good understanding of relevant health related training and interventions.

About us

Starting with NELFTNELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

Probationary PeriodThis post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).High Cost Area Supplement - LondonThis post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,313 and a maximum payment of £5,436 per annum).
