Job summary

The Occupational Therapy (OT) team at Redbridge Adult Community Learning Disabilities Team (RBCLDT), is looking to recruit an enthusiastic, skilled, and innovative full-time/part- time (negotiable) Band 6 OT.

The post holder will work with the Lead Occupational Therapist and be part of the LD multi- disciplinary health and social care team. The post holder will have the opportunity to be involved in a wider range of clinical work directly and indirectly with service users, their families, and carers, focusing on skills development, support needs, behaviours of concern, sensory processing and any other related areas, that enable the person with a learning disability to increase their independence and quality of life.

The role will require working with wider services including social care teams, education, day centres, care agencies, voluntary sector and other organisations as required.

The post holder will also be able to develop professional skills in relation to providing clinical supervision and line management to junior, unqualified and student staff, being involved in service development, promoting good practice and the opportunity for CPD.

Main duties of the job

To provide Occupational therapy assessment and intervention to adults with learning disabilities in a range of community settings, through direct work with the person and those in their circle of support. This clinical input can be used to; recommend support and changes to the physical and social environment, develop skills and engagement in meaningful activity, support behaviours of concern and advise regarding sensory processing.

In addition to this the band 6 OT will have the opportunity to develop clinical supervision and management skills and be involved in service development for the OT service and wider LD team.

  • To use Mediquip when prescribing minor equipment/adaptation after assessing and concluding the clients functional needs are impacted by learning disabilities.
  • To treat service users in their own homes and other community settings, assisting and empowering service users towards independence where appropriate.
  • To assist, in conjunction with the senior clinician/ team lead, in the review and evaluation of the effectiveness of Occupational Therapy care and practice provided.
  • To work as part of a team with other therapists, nurses, social workers, and any other members of the MDT.
  • To be conversant and comply with the organisation policies and clinical guidelines
  • To be responsible for providing accurate records of information required by the Trust for audit purposes.

Care driver preferable, however, travels expenses are reimbursed.
