Job summary

Band 5 occupational therapist working within a core MDT alongside experienced team of OT's.

To provide occupational therapy assessments and interventions to support young people to remain and strive in their community.

Aim - to provide therapeutic interventions based on evidence based research to proactively support; , access to meaningful occupations, social and educational reintegration, assess ADLs and functioning, provide psycho education, support with occupational activities and maintain routines.

The successful applicant will join a team of experienced OT's working on the YPHTT and will also work closely with the ward OT team.The OT post is part of a skilled multi disciplinary team of doctors, nurses, psychologists and social workers.

Main duties of the job

  1. Responsible for undertaking comprehensive clinical assessments of service users.
  2. Assess, plan, implement and evaluate Occupational Therapy treatments for specialist case load, in a variety of settings, as an autonomous practitioner.
  3. Provide specialist clinical advice to other team members on the suitability of various assessments and intervention methods where appropriate.
  4. Act at all times as a role model for Occupational Therapy, raising the profile and value of the role.
  5. Being creative and innovative in the design and facilitation of an inclusive and creative therapeutic programme
  6. Using creativity and enthusiasm to motivate young people to engage with meaningful occupation.
  7. Work cohesively with the OT team across all of Brookside services
  8. Complete OT evidence based assessments and intervention's
  9. Complete specialised OT assessments such as sensory profiles (training is provided)
  10. Support and manage social and educational reintegration
  11. Support MDT in therapeutic management of interventions
  12. Support Brookside's on site school with school reintegration
  13. Remain in date with mandatory training and be interested in exploring specialised training
  14. Complete group protocols inclusive of risk assessments
  15. Creating individualised care plans and remaining compliant with documentation
  16. Provide OT interventions based on current and informed evidence based practice
  17. Enthusiastic and passionate about ongoing training
  18. Remaining up to date with supervision

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process, new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

High-Cost Area Supplement - London

This post also attracts payment for High-Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,313 and a maximum payment of £5,436).

  2. Undertake day to day clinical prioritisation and work planning, supported by a Senior Occupational Therapist.

  9. Assess service users and carers capacity for consent at all times.

  11. Work with others to establish a service which facilitates the service users timely discharge from the service.
  12. Demonstrate sensitive awareness to respond to challenging situations with service users and carers with appropriate supervision and support from senior staff.
