Job summary

Training roles available;

Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP)

These posts train within Kent and Medway Mental Health Support Teams (MHST). https://www.nelft.nhs.uk/kent-and-medway-mental-health-support-teams EMHPs within these teams provide low intensity interventions based on CBT and guided self help (GSH)

Trainee Children Wellbeing Practitioner (CWP)

These posts train within Kent and Medway CYP-MH Service (known nationally as CAMHS). https://www.nelft.nhs.uk/services-kent-children-young-peoples-mental-health CWPs within these teams provide low intensity interventions based on CBT and GSH.

Both training programmes if successfully completed lead to permanent band 5 role within MHSTs predominantly and a few posts within CYPMHS. You will be asked to select your preference at interview.

The posts will be within MHST based in Tunbridge Wells or Maidstone. CWP training roles will be within localities CYP-MH clinics, there are 9 different geographical locations within Kent and Medway.

All candidates will need to undertake a dual application process (with NELFT and KCL). This means that candidates will need to be eligible for EMHP/CWP training programme at KCL before job offers are made.

KCL application portal for all courses will open on 31st July.

Successful candidates will be offered a post-graduate educational programme specifically for the EMHP/CWP role and delivered by Kings College London. The roles are funded at NHS Agenda for Change (AfC) bottom of Band 4, gaining credits towards a post-graduate diploma level qualification, plus guaranteed employment on successful completion of training, with a starting salary of the NHS AfC Band 5 scale with NELFT (please see both Band 4 and Band 5 Job Descriptions attached).

EMPHs/CWPs are required to become registered practitioners on qualification, there are two registering bodies British Psychological Society (BPS) and British Association for Behaviour and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP). These registrations do require membership and registration fees. Please discuss this during your training year.

Some of the trainee EMHPs are funded by Health Education England and others by NELFT. More details around the funding of these course can be explained at interview. Candidates are not expected to pay their university fees, these posts are recruit to train posts.

About us

Probationary PeriodThis post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff). The first contract received is a fixed term training contract that will support the candidate to completion of the course. On successful completion of the course the candidate will be offered a permanent position within a vacant post in either MHST or CYP-MHS without interview. Please ask us about more information during your interview.

Starting with NELFTAll new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.The training year will be a blend of taught days at KCL and placement days in nominated schools in Kent and Medway post holders will need to be able to travel to complete all elements.
