Job summary
The Learning and Disability team are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Band 3 Peer Support Worker to join their team, and this exciting opportunity has arisen for 12 months. The role will be flexible in terms of hours and can be negotiated and tailored to the successful applicant individual circumstances.
This role would be ideal for a peer support worker with lived experience using adults, older adults, and learning disabilities health services. Also, the ideal candidate would have completed the NELFT Accredited Peer Support Worker Training or have experience working as a Peer Support Worker (and complete the NELFT APSW training within 6 months of recruitment).
Main duties of the job
The main responsibilities of the post are to:
- Support service users to access these resources, including acting as an escort, e.g. in vocation, education, and leisure.
- To act as a role model and mentor for Recovery, using my experience to inspire hope in others, demonstrating coping skills, sharing life experiences, self-management techniques and lessons learned where appropriate.
- To contribute to the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of recovery-focused care.
- To enhance Recovery, create and maintain professional, supportive relationships with all staff members and other external professionals and agencies.
- To be aware of and teach others and challenging issues in relation to stigma, low expectations, and anti-discriminatory practice as appropriate.
- Attend team meetings/awaydays as appropriate.
- Ensure that systems are in place to capture and listen to the voice of service users and carers and that action is taken appropriately.

Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process, new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.
High-Cost Area Supplement - London
This post also attracts payment for High-Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,313 and a maximum payment of £5,436).
