An opportunity has arisen for a vibrant, suitably qualified psychological practitioner (Clinical/Counselling and Community Psychologist) to join our dynamic Waltham Forest Psychological Services. This is a permanent, full-time post involving working across both the Mood Anxiety and Personality (MAP) and the Mental Health and Wellness Team (MHWT).
This is an exciting opportunity to secure a Band 7 post where the successful candidate will be supported to meet 8a competencies through a preceptorship programme. Typically this takes around 12 months and once competencies are met, the post holder will transfer to an 8a role with us.
You would be a core member of a MHWT multi-disciplinary team. These are being set up to deliver the long-term transformation of Community Mental Health Services. Working in this Team will involve embracing community psychology principles,- understanding the needs of local populations, and working in partnership with service users, carers, peer support workers, voluntary sector and Local Authority colleagues to develop creative and innovative projects that address the psychosocial needs of our clients, particularly those who are less well-served by existing ways of working.
Main duties of the job
This post involves carrying out psychological assessments and interventions, offering consultation and supervision to assistant, trainee and Clinical Associate Psychologists (CAPs) and members of the multi-disciplinary teams. You will also have the opportunity to join with us in on-going service development and improvement initiatives.
Experience of psychological assessment and treatment of clients with secondary care mental health problems within the NHS is essential. A keen interest in working with this client group is essential as well as the ability to apply evidence-based psychological therapy approaches and work with autonomy and flexibility. Additional specialist training in advanced therapy skills, such as CBT, as well as experience in teaching and delivering training, would be desirable. Experience and/or interest in setting up, running and/or co-facilitating groups would be desirable.
The post holder would also join a well-established and well-respected team of psychologists in MAP. We are a friendly, collaborative and supportive team who deliver time-limited and structured individual and group psychological interventions to adults with complex mental health difficulties. The team includes approximately fourteen qualified psychologists, with skills in Compassion Focussed Therapy, CAT, Schema Focussed Therapy, Mindfulness and EMDR - as well as specialist CBT.

Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.
High Cost Area Supplement - London
This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,313 and a maximum payment of £5,436 per annum pro rata).

2. Be able to provide a highly skilled psychological service to clients with secondary care (non-psychosis) mental health difficulties. Deliver a culturally and ethically sensitive, equitable psychological therapy service to all minority groups regardless of race and ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, culture, religion, and disability; to include service users in the design and delivery of the service.5. To work closely with multidisciplinary members of other mental health teams ensure effective multi-professional communication and decision making.
6. To work with service users, their networks, peer support workers and community organisations to develop initiatives from the ground-up that are in line with local need and practice-based evidence.7. To offer advice and consultation on patients psychological care to psychology and non-psychology colleagues and to other, non-professional carers, working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the services policies and procedures. 8. To contribute to the support of trainee clinical/counselling psychologists or psychotherapy/counselling trainees on accredited training courses and Clinical Associate Psychologists (CAPs) and assistant psychologists.
