This post is an exciting opportunity for those who wish to be part of an innovative developing service. The SET CAMHS crisis and home treatment team offer assessment and interventions to those young people presenting with mental deterioration or crisis presentations. As a service we now work within the Thrive model and implement collaborative care plans with our community services and community SET CAMHS team to promote positive outcomes for vulnerable young people and their families-there are opportunities here for joint working and co-ordinating alongside the community-based teams. Our approach to working is being developed with a focus on meeting the needs of the young person to ensure effective clinical practice and brief therapeutic interventions, and to reduce risk in order to have a stabilising impact within a containing approach. Within the service there are opportunities for development and training in various therapeutic approaches, and all new starters will be provided with a full induction and opportunities to shadow the team and to learn about the various departments/teams within the SET CAMHS model.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will benefit from being part of a friendly, supportive, dynamic and developing service based within Essex. The successful candidate will work alongside highly motivated colleagues and have access to effective supervision, both individually and group formats, and be supported with CPD requirements through relevant training. There will also be additional training and development opportunities as the service grows and develops, including opportunity to contribute to the care of young people within the A&E pathway.
We are looking for candidates who have enthusiasm and passion for meeting the needs of young people in crisis and supporting the families who support them, as well as being adaptable, enjoying variety, working independently, as well as understanding the relevance of team working.
The goals of the programme are to:
- Reduce the likelihood of a prolonged stay within the inpatient setting
- Reduce the amount of young people being detained under the Mental Health Act (MHA)
- Improve the young person's experience
- Promote the least restrictive option of care
- Enable robust package of care to be instigated within the community to support the young person
- To provide robust links with community mental health and Emotional Wellbeing Services, improve patient experiences and access to suitable treatment

Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

Our 72 hour bed service sits within our crisis team, and there will be an expectation for the worker to carry out crisis team duties within working hours where capacity allows-this may be to support the stabilisation of a young person being discharged from a Tier 4 unit, or intensive therapeutic work to support them to remain in the community/prevent admission where it is safe to do so. As part of the 72 hr bed programme the practitioner will provide support to vulnerable children and their families who may require a brief Tier 4 admission in Essex, Southend and Thurrock.
NELFT have joined with EPUT to offer this service and there are beds available at Poplar (Rochford) and Longview (Colchester) to support the brief admission. The aim is to provide rapid and accessible T4 Mental Health crisis intervention for young people, where needs cannot be met in the community, for a period of 72 working hours. The goal is to provide an extended assessment period with careful care planning attached to promote rapid stabilisation of the young person, and for community resources and a support package of care to be put in place to support the young person/family/carers with the return of the young person to their home environment. The practitioner will attend professionals meetings/CPA's to care plan for discharge, and offer intensive support in the community to help stabilise the young person. An ability to build positive rapport with young people, families, and professionals will be essential. There will also be an expectation to undertake supervision of junior staff members.
We are particularly looking for clinicians who can meet the following criteria:
- Skilled in assessment, formulation, management and delivery of therapy to people experiencing acute mental health crisis in both community and hospital settings
- Experienced in assessing and managing clinical risk, drawing on dynamic case formulation skills and working collaboratively with service users to agree their treatment and safety plans
- Possess a current Nursing, Social Work, Occupational Therapist, Counselling, Psychotherapy or equivalent professional qualification and be skilled and experienced in the delivery of evidence-based approaches to therapy (including DBT/CBT/Systemic & Creative therapies).
- Having knowledge, understanding and experience of working with the legal frameworks which relate to the care and treatment of children and young people, with particular reference to Children Act 1989, Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended in 2007)
- Flexibility to work within a service which operates 7 days a week 365 days per year which includes unsociable hours
- The candidate will possess the ability to work independently as well as being a collaborative and supportive member of the Multidisciplinary Team, and have an understanding and appreciation of the networks that surround young people in a modern age, especially in relation to mental health and mental health crisis.

SET CAMHS (Southend, Essex and Thurrock CAMHS) is looking to recruit an enthusiastic CAMHS Intensive Support Service (ISS) Pathway Worker.
Qualifications and Experience
This post is open to Counsellors, Psychotherapistsand Psychological Therapists (BACP, UKCP, PTUK, HCPC), Registered Mental Health Nurses (RMN's), Occupational Therapists (OT), Social Workers. Any additional qualifications in therapeutic approaches such as DBT, EMDR, CBT, MBT, NVR, SFT would also be desirable.
The practitioner will be responsible for providing outreach evidence-based intervention to young people and families within the Intensive Support Service Community Pathway under the Thrive model.
